About the role

We’re seeking an enthusiastic and curious Associate UX Researcher who demonstrates attention to detail to join our multidisciplinary team!

As an associate researcher at the UK’s largest supermarket, you’ll become a crucial part of helping millions of people shop better. You’ll discover the how, why and when of customer needs, helping shape and validate solutions that improve every stage of a customer’s shopping journey. You'll learn how to balance business objectives with user expectations, generating research that helps tackle both. And you’ll work with a team of true experts who can help you overcome every challenge.

Audiences don't get bigger or more diverse than this. We have 11 million active app users and over 1 million online grocery orders a week. So, you’ll need a big appetite for research methodologies. That includes qualitative and quantitate research, customer interviews and data synthesis!

Empathy mixed with insight and collaboration is the recipe for successful research. So, you’ll be learning from and collaborating with the finest researchers, UX and UI designers, UX writers, service designers, data and analytics experts, product managers and developers.

  • Annual bonus scheme of up to 10% of base salary

You will be responsible for
  • Design and conduct research to offer user-centred, data-driven recommendations across various projects and product areas.
  • Formulate research summaries, establish research timelines, perform qualitative and quantitative studies, evaluate outcomes, craft verbal and written reports, give presentations to customers.
  • Collaborate with other teams, such as the Online UX Design Team and product owners to understand key business requirements and priorities.
  • Exhibit the ability to apply a range of UX research methods and turn research findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Contribute to the advancement of standard methodologies in UI and UX design research through sharing knowledge, insights, and processes.
  • Support the UX researchers with workflow and project management through facilitating prioritisation, identifying achievements and risks, streamlining comms, and ensuring the team has the resources it needs.
  • Evangelise research practices standards across the team.
  • Identify and solve workflow issues, such as coordinating research activities and booking labs.
  • Elevate the visibility of the UX Research Team by identifying and sharing success stories and assisting collaborators in recognising the team's value and contribution.
  • Assist with organising and facilitating team meetings and activities, maintain tools, create playbooks and onboard new team members.
  • Help maintain relationships with external parties, such as vendors.
  • Follow our Business Code of Conduct and always acting with integrity and due diligence.

You will need
  • A sound awareness of UX research methodology and practices
  • Hands-on experience with a range of qualitative and quantitative research methods and techniques, such as usability testing, ethnography, contextual enquiry, creation of user personas, journey mapping, surveys, competitor analysis and heuristics.
  • An understanding of user-centred design principles and their application to interface and service design.
  • Some knowledge of Agile and Lean practices.
  • An appreciation of the trade-offs between user needs, business requirements and technical constraints.
  • Experience crafting research plans to identify key achievement deliverables to collaborators and senior level team members.
  • Experience using software tools for both lab-based and remote user testing. This could include UserTesting.com, Optimal Workshop, Morae, Tobii, InVision.
  • Experience in Usability / UX lab-based testing is desirable.
  • The ability to build solid working relationships with peers and senior leadership
  • Strong written and verbal communication, and presentation skills.
  • The ability to tackle problems creatively and effectively.
