About the role
We’re looking for a Design Manager to uncover opportunity in everything—from large, ground-breaking projects to small improvements that make an immediate difference. As Design Manager for Store Operations, you’ll be part of a colleague experience team shaping tools and services used daily by hundreds of thousands of colleagues. This is a role where you can balance strategic thinking with hands-on delivery, bringing a passion for design craft while defining the future of user experience. You’ll guide research, evolve design processes, and inspire your team to push boundaries, working closely with Product, Data Science, and Engineering to deliver innovative, user-centred solutions. With a strong focus on data and insights, you’ll ensure every decision is grounded in real user and colleague needs while championing exceptional UX across the business.

You will be responsible for
- Driving a strong human-centred design approach across your domain
- Leading teams to identify user needs through evidence-based research and insights
- Owning and being accountable for UX outputs delivered by your team
- Supporting and shaping design strategy across key projects
- Ensuring teams are solving the right problems effectively and efficiently
- Contributing to and supporting business KPIs through design outcomes
- Promoting and evangelising design best practice across the organisation
- Communicating clearly with stakeholders at all levels, including senior leadership
- Creating an environment of strong cross-functional collaboration
- Challenging and influencing product direction and strategic roadmaps
- Leading workshops, design reviews, and key ceremonies
- Driving continuous improvement across design and research teams
- Managing recruitment, onboarding, and line management responsibilities
- Improving design, research, and development processes to increase efficiency
- Supporting resource planning and team capability development
- Advocating for and contributing to the design system
- Mentoring and developing team members to achieve their full potential
You will need
- Proven experience across end-to-end UX design processes, from research to delivery
- Strong skills in user research, journey mapping, IA, prototyping, and testing
- Expertise in workshops, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement
- Experience leading high-performing research and design teams
- Deep understanding of UX, interaction design, usability, and human-centred design principles
- Strong ability to translate concepts into functional, user-validated solutions
- Experience conducting primary user research and applying insights effectively
- Excellent communication and presentation skills across cross-functional teams
