About the Online Technology Programme Team
This is an opportunity to work in Online Technology Programme Team working across a number of complex programmes and areas of our ever-growing ecommerce journey. We have multiple growth and revenue driving initiatives coming into one unified customer experience. We need to help the customer Search, discover, inspire and find the products they need to fulfil their missions, coordinating the delivery of Media and Personalisation across all our propositions (Groceries, Marketplace, Whoosh, F&F) and most importantly continuing to grow our established Grocery shopping core and helping it grow to a £6bn+ business in 3 years.
Driving forward our “Easily the most convenient” strategic pillar you will be working on a multitude of different programmes and stakeholders, which touch the Search, Recommendations and Experience API. This is a great opportunity to work in a complex, customer facing area where you can gain experience and exposure to almost all parts of the Tesco and Tesco Technology ecosystem.

As a Lead Technical Programme Manager, you will deliver complex, cross-functional technology programmes that support colleagues and help serve our customers better. They work collaboratively, influence Product, Engineering and business colleagues and lead the programme to deliver value quickly and often.
Whilst specific responsibilities will be dependent upon the changing needs of the Tesco business, the following provides an overview of the role’s key responsibilities and measures:
- Deliver complex programmes with multiple business and technical risks that will impact the success of key Tesco business priorities
- Pro-actively identifying and managing dependencies Risks and Issues, budgets and influencing multiple Stakeholders
- Create and track a plan to deliver the programme goals, including the technical implementation plan and identifying the critical path. Owning the release plan and stakeholder communication and weekly Governance
- Understand trade-offs in delivery, using experience and influencing skills to drive consensus and decisions across our Business, Technology and engineering teams to release value early and deliver the best solutions
- Able to understand the technical architecture and be able to foresee the impact on dependencies, delivery timelines and implementation plans
- Effectively manage major incidents, ensuring stakeholders are updated with the right information to drive the correct decisions, keeping the customer at the forefront of everyone’s mind
- Line management: Empowering teams and individuals to manage delivery through delegation
- Leading the adoption and improving strong agile practices across Product, Programme, UXDR, Analytics and Engineering. Constantly looking to improve processes and collaboration having a positive impact on efficiency and effectiveness
- Proactively identify problems, working closely with Product and engineering teams to quantify their impact and prioritise fixes
· Build positive relationships with internals & external stakeholders to deliver software, co-ordinate rollouts or installations, or professional services
Key Skills and Experience
You’ll need to have demonstrated experience of:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills – you must be able to articulate complex concepts to a diverse audience of challenging stakeholders
- The ability to influence without authority
- Demonstrate resilience during incidents or change and continue delivery
- Understanding of agile techniques to deliver world beating products.
