- Lead on large and small projects from start to finish, redefining complicated colleague experiences into simple and intuitive solutions.
- Own the end-to-end design process from understanding the problem space and prioritising opportunities, through to exploring potential solutions, prototyping and validating with users.
- Champion human-centered design with your partners and the wider business. Help other subject areas understand the value design can bring to our products.
- Work within and across Agile squads to design, develop and improve the customer experience across our digital products.
- Work in partnership with Product Managers to understand and define customer problems and to build testable hypotheses that improve the user experience.
- Partner with UX researchers to help your team develop empathy for our customers, including those with a disability, and advocate for their needs, validating designs via A/B testing, un-moderated, usability testing, surveys and more.
- Use quantitative data and partner with the analytics team to help advise your work.
- Use and promote data-driven decision making within your work, and when measuring the impact of your achievements.
- Collaborate with UI designers, researchers, engineers, product specialists, data experts, and business partners to investigate, build, develop, and provide significant solutions. In the absence of dedicated support, you’re comfortable conducting basic discovery, user research and UI designs independently to keep projects moving forward.
- Work closely with different multidisciplinary teams, including UI designers, researchers, engineers, UX writers, service designers, product managers, data analysts, and business collaborators to find new opportunities for improvements and to explore, build, and deliver designs.
- Promote and produce design executions that use inclusive design principles and align with W3C accessibility guidelines.
- Lead workshops with business collaborators and user groups. Run appropriate conceptualisation and participatory design sessions.
- With support from UI designers in the team, use Figma and the Digital Design System to create UI designs and prototypes.
- Deliver valuable, high-quality and consistent work without sacrificing speed by using our Digital Design System and its standardised foundations, components, and patterns.
- Collaborate with the Design System team to help evolve the Design System based on user needs.
- Assist other fields in recognizing the value design can add to a project to develop outstanding products.
- Offer feedback to other designers and collaborators to improve your team and Tesco as a whole.
- Help your teammates build experience, strong decision-making skills, and compassion for our customers.
- Work with the Design Manager to cultivate a positive, supportive, and inclusive team culture.

- 5+ years UX design experience.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating experience in design thinking methodologies and expertise across web, responsive and native apps.
- Passion for solving business, product and user problems while balancing all facets of a user experience, including strategy and research, information architecture, interaction design and accessibility.
- Detailed understanding of the end-to-end iterative design process including how to develop and use design research, journey mapping, wire-framing, prototyping, and user testing to achieve human-centred design solutions.
- Proficiency with current industry design and collaboration tools such as Figma, Miro, Jira and Confluence or similar.
- Proficiency in interaction design for web (desktop and mobile) and native applications
- Experience working with design systems.
- Ability to use both quantitative and qualitative insight to inform decision-making.
- Experience of designing with accessibility in mind and meeting WCAG 2.1 level AA.
- Experience collaborating closely with multiple fields including product and engineering.
- Strong written, verbal communication and presentation skills to all levels of seniority and subject areas within the organisation.
- Ability to coach, mentor and set standards for ways of working for more junior team members.
