About the role
This job requires to be based in/close to Kraków. We currently work in a hybrid model and meet in our office 3 days a week.

We're seeking a dynamic Software Development Manager to lead our engineering team, delivering high-quality cloud based solutions for Tesco Retail's Workforce Management. 

The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, exceptional leadership skills, and a passion for fostering innovation. You'll play a key role in project success, stakeholder communication, and driving a culture of innovation. As a team player, you'll excel in a fast-paced agile environment, focusing on quality, security, and user impact.

Salary: 28 000 - 40 000 PLN/month (pernament)

You will be responsible for

• Play an active role in people management and technical leadership and supporting the product management.

• Impact the teams led, the people managed and the products responsible for, whilst having a direct impact upon the environment and continuous improvement within the domain.

• Responsible for building and developing high performing teams.

• Take accountability for the environment that teams operate within and the processes and standards that facilitate high quality software delivery.

• Ensuring the right product outcomes through the right technical strategy and trade-offs.

• Build capability by hiring, retaining, and developing the careers of engineers, ensuring opportunities for growth and maintaining a level of challenge and motivation.

• Establish and sustain the environment for development to succeed.

• Primary focus is to hire, develop and retain Software Development Engineers (SDEs).

• Lead and develop SDEs through tailored plans, 1-2-1 meetings, coaching and mentoring whilst aligning opportunities to grow expertise alongside the goals of the wider team and business.

• Ensure SDEs are set up for success and provide course corrections when needed.

• Responsible for building performing teams that consistently deliver quality software whilst balancing the demands of timeframes and needs.

• Ensure the right levels of processes, practices, and standards to build and operate products, aligned to the wider Technology strategy and standards.

• Drive continuous improvement across teams and directorate, capturing the right data to affect practices and delivery.

• Guide and empower engineers to own technical decisions whilst understanding when guidance is needed.

• Play a major role in the process of releasing value to customers.

• Accountable for the products worked on and proactively identify risks, propose mitigations, and understand when to escalate or ask for help.

• Build balanced, empathetic relationships with stakeholders and product teams, collaborating effectively to ensure the right outcomes are delivered.

• Play a key role in formulating the technical strategy and roadmap for the area to support the growth of business objectives and maintaining competitive advantage.

• Drive architecture, design, implementation, adoption, and re-usability of technology within teams and the wider technology community, crafting a culture of innovation and technical excellence.

You will need

Technical Skills:

  • Experience in delivering Java 8+ (or any other JVM language) based software solutions using frameworks like Spring Boot, Spring WebFlux, Kotlin, etc
  • Proficiency with test suites like Junit, Mockito, and Wire mock
  • Experience and familiarity with Public Cloud platforms such as Azure
  • Strong knowledge of software and architectural design patterns
  • Comfortable with DevOps practices involving configuration management, CI/CD pipelines, IaaC, deployment patterns, etc
  • Proficiency in containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Strong knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies

Personal Skills:

  • A minimum of 2-3 years of hands-on experience managing software development teams of 6-8 people
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, engaging with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Proven success in building, developing, and leading high-performance software engineering teams
  • Experience in hiring, retaining, and developing engineers, ensuring growth opportunities and maintaining motivation
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to addressing challenges
  • Passion for staying updated with the latest industry trends and technologies
