About the role
Domain Architects - Data drive alignment to help Technology collectively deliver a simpler, flexible & sustainable data architecture across multiple business functions. They define, communicate and govern the data architecture and strategy for given business domains, leading data transformation programmes and ensuring robust data models, governance frameworks, and compliant platform solutions that enable and deliver the Tesco Business Strategy. They work closely with senior stakeholders across various functions to understand specific domain data requirements, leading in the development of data architecture blueprints and providing strategic technical leadership to ensure integrity, consistency, regulatory compliance, and scalability of data solutions. They build data architecture capability within the organization while continuously improving the data landscape to drive business value and operational excellence.

You will be responsible for
Fostering understanding of the current data landscape and its impact on stakeholders:
  •  Ensure we have data models and materials that describe the data architecture landscape for given business domains at a high-level and how it supports business operations
  •  Help colleagues of all levels to understand data flows, dependencies, and their role within the broader data ecosystem to aid decision making
  •  Create and maintain data architecture artifacts, data lineage documentation, and governance frameworks

Evolving and embedding our overall Data Strategy and ensuring it informs everything we do:
  • Contribute to the definition of target data architectures that will improve our business for customers and colleagues in line with our business and Technology strategy and plans
  • Design conceptual and logical data models ensuring accuracy, consistency, and scalability across business domains
  • Identify optimal approaches to data acquisition, storage, transformation, and governance while increasing agility and driving simplicity / cost efficiency over the short, medium and long-term
  • Contribute to business planning activities utilising broad understanding of regulatory requirements (including SOX, GDPR) and industry data trends

Guiding high-level data solution design and delivery to achieve our strategic goals whilst ensuring continuous business value:
  • Work in collaboration with Product and Engineering teams to ensure flexible, compliant and secure data solutions
  • Apply data governance principles, policies, standards and regulatory requirements to guide solution decision making for data-significant initiatives
  • Select and implement appropriate data management tools and technologies, including data warehouses, data lakes, and governance platforms
  • Support successful delivery by providing targeted guidance through the technology lifecycle, delivering business value and realising strategic data goals

Evolving our data architecture and design framework as part of the Technology delivery model:
  • Build data architecture capability and competency within business domains in keeping with our emphasis on agile, DevOps and modern data practices
  • Engage and educate Technology colleagues in enterprise and data architecture topics including domain data modelling and modern data stack patterns
  • Proactively collaborate and communicate with Technology colleagues and delivery partners to drive data architecture awareness and adoption
  • Evaluate and recommend new data technologies, tools and patterns to enhance business processes and data capabilities
You will need
Experience relevant for this job:
  • Successful use of Data Architecture to shape strategic data priorities and business outcomes
  • Deep knowledge and proven record of leading business domains through data transformation programmes
  • Continuous improvement in data landscape to rationalize, modernize and optimize data platforms and solutions
  • Design and management of domain data architecture to meet strategic needs, providing data blueprints for engineers to build and products to follow
  • Creation, communication and embedding of Data strategy and governance frameworks
  • Leading data architecture governance, compliance assurance, and regulatory adherence
  • Hands-on (current or previous) data engineering and data platform experience
  • Experience operating within Finance, Assets and/or Colleague Technology domains
  • Business Operating Model knowledge/experience with understanding of data's role in business processes
  • Proven ability to influence without authority across multiple business functions
