We’re looking for a resourceful, imaginative and bold Midweight UX Designer to join our multidisciplinary team!
As a Midweight UX Designer at the UK’s largest supermarket, you’ll be shaping experiences that help millions of people shop better. You’ll help discover new opportunities, contributing to the intuitive and effortless solutions that improve every stage of a customer’s shopping journey. You’ll understand business objectives and user expectations, assisting in developing build solutions that surpass both. And you’ll become an expert in testing, iterating and improving what you do and how you do it!
Audiences don't get bigger or more diverse than this. We have 11 million active app users and over 1 million online grocery orders a week. So, you’ll really need to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in. You'll need a big appetite for human-centred design, customer research and data and analytics. Collaboration mixed with expertise and insight is the recipe for successful design. So you’ll be working with some of the finest UX and UI designers, researchers, UX writers, service designers, data and analytics experts, product managers and developers.
Our secret ingredient is our digital design system. So, you’ll need some experience using one, whether it's just a pinch to improve a prototype or a big dollop to shape a whole user journey.

- Work in partnership with Product Managers to understand and define customer problems and to build testable hypotheses that improve the customer experience
- Identify, communicate and work to mitigate assumptions and risks arising out of product discovery and design
- Demonstrate deep knowledge of customer needs and use this knowledge to advise and support product development
- Uncover new customer needs and inform Tesco’s knowledge about its customers
- Present and support your designs and key breakthrough deliverables to peers and senior level team members
- Understand and apply the trade-offs between usability, creativity, and performance in meeting business objectives
- Collaborate with collaborators in research and development process through teamwork, workshops, build shares, and show & tells
- Work with others to build and establish standardised practices within the design team, including ongoing development of our design system
- Coordinating and detailing digital pieces at work to establish conventions and etiquette across teams and products
- Use quantitative and qualitative research and insight to inform design decisions and articulate them to the business
- Produce design executions that use inclusive design principles and align with W3C accessibility guidelines
- Collaborate and connect with UI designers, UX writers, developers, analysts, researchers, and project managers across teams to produce effective multi-channel experiences.
- Review and constructively feedback on work from designers across the team
- Contribute to building and encouraging a positive, valuable team culture
- At least 3 years’ experience working within UX Design.
- A proven track record of delivered UX design work.
- Prior involvement in high-profile design projects in a commercial environment.
- First-hand experience of agile methodologies and practice.
- The ability to work with and deliver personas, user journeys, page flows, wireframes, site architectures, navigation models, interface scamps, page comps, interactive prototypes and interaction guides.
- Proficiency with the latest versions of Figma, Sketch, Marvel, Miro, Axure or similar.
- Validated experience crafting intuitive graphical interfaces for desktop, tablet and mobile devices.
- The ability to use both quant and qual insight to inform decision-making.
- Experience at carrying out or participating in customer research, including interviews, observation and usability testing.
